Overview
‘Champion’ is an overused word in the sporting arena, but Ben Collins has picked out 27 Australian Football greats truly worthy of the name in this revealing book. Wayne Carey and Peter Hudson, Nathan Buckley and Ron Barassi, James Hird and Greg Williams – Champions truly is a Who’s Who of footy royalty. It’s hard to think of any other publication in which so many greats of the game share their thoughts and wisdom – all in fascinating first-person accounts. Where Collins succeeds is in what he gets out of his subjects. Be it Allan Jeans’ secrets to coaching success or the lengths Robert Harvey would go to shake a tagger; it’s gripping stuff. Republished in A4 hardback format and packed with full-page colour photos, Champions is a treasure chest of football memories.
